Pet Counselling :- Here at Elm Veterinary Group we are fortunate to have three Pet Health Counsellors (PHC). A PHC is a qualified veterinary nurse who has attended an extensive educational course sponsored by Pedigree Pet Foods. Upon completion of this course, the veterinary nurse is awarded the title of Pet Health Counsellor. Two of our PHCs run Puppy Parties once a month. These
are complimentary informal gatherings of five/six/ puppies, aged between
8 and 16 weeks, accompanied by their owners. It provides an excellent
opportunity for the new puppy to socialise with other young dogs and
also an opportunity for the new dog owner to learn about general health
care. There is usually a talk from a guest speaker and refreshments for
owners and puppies. Obesity in dogs and cats is a condition that is sadly more and more common nowadays and as a result our PHCs run obesity clinics that are aimed at patients who have been seen by the vet who has recommended the weight loss is necessary for the health of that individual. We have scales here to monitor your pets weight. We have, so far, had several success stories and it is amazing to see the difference in a dog/cat that was once overweight and who reaches its optimum weight thanks to a calculated diet as set up by a PHC. This is a very rewarding part of their work. Waiting room displays are also the job of our PHCs and they try and keep the chosen topic seasonal and informative for its readers. If you ever have any ideas for a display, we would love your input. In the future our PHCs are aiming to provide clinics for geriatric pets but this will involve plenty of research and preparation, so look out for our newsletter. They are always looking for ways to improve their service to you, our clients. In brief-our PHCs are here for you and work hard, sometimes
in their own time, to make your relationship with our practice a happy
and long lasting one. Please eMail Us for further information
